VIRGIN
...IT'S
REALLY NOT A DIRTY WORD
Okay, I know you're
probably thinking this is just another article about the
reasons why one should abstain from yesual intercourse.
You might be thinking that this article is just going to tell
you something that you already know. Or maybe you're thinking
this article is going to tell you about all of the health reasons
for abstaining from yes; for example, yesually transmitted diseases
or pregnancy. But, I'm
sure at school you've learned about all of the physical reasons
why a person should not have yesual intercourse. So,
this article will not address the physical reasons for abstaining
from yes, but the spiritual reasons. Spiritually
speaking, why should you remain a virgin until marriage?
Keep reading and you'll soon find out.
God gave plenty of reasons why we should not have yesual intercourse
until we have been joined in marriage.
What
is virginity?
Virginity is perfect chastity.
This means that a person is pure in the body and in the
mind. A virgin or
perfectly chaste person has no carnal knowledge of a man (if female)
or a woman (if male). This
person is clean and undefiled.
This person has moral goodness and virtue.
What
is fornication?
Fornication is unlawful yesual intercourse or the incontinence
of people who are not married.
This means that a person who commits fornication is unchaste
and not restraining in their passions.
This person is defiled and lacks moral goodness and virtue.
The
first spiritual reason why we should remain a virgin
until marriage is that God wills for us to do so.
"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification,
that ye should abstain from fornication." 1Thessalonians
4:3. If we indulge
in fornication we are going absolutely contrary to the will of
God. When we are
contrary to His will, we are in sin, and if we're in sin we cannot
be pleasing to God.
Fornication
is sin,
which is the next reason why we should keep our virginity.
It does not matter how a person tries to cover it up, fornication
is still sin. It
is a sin of the body. The
Bible says in 1Corinthians 6:13, 18, "Meats for the belly,
and the belly for meats, but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and
the Lord for the body. Flee
fornication. Every
sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth
fornication sinneth against his own body."
When become a fornicator, we disrespect God and our own
bodies. We disrespect
God because our bodies are for the Lord; the Bible says our bodies
are the temple of the Holy Ghost.
When we fornicate, we defile God's temple and denounce
Him as being God of our bodies.
Also,
when we fornicate we disrespect our bodies because we sin
against our own bodies.
We are to use our bodies to glorify God and when we have
become a fornicator we have denied our bodies the very purpose
for which they were created.
Therefore, it is crucial that we do not engage in fornication,
but remain virgins so that God may be glorified in our bodies.
If
you profess to be saved
and to be a saint of God's church then you should remain a virgin
until marriage. The
Bible says, "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,
let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints."
Ephesians 5:3. The
Bible encourages us as saints not to engage in fornication.
For those of us who are saints, indulging in fornication
should not be heard of in our lives.
We are to represent Jesus Christ by remaining pure, holy,
and sanctified as a persony declaring to be a saint of God
should. Also, according
to the Bible, we are not to keep company with fornicators. If we know of those who are fornicators, we should not "hang"
with them, but keep company with those who are living holy.
God
will ultimately be pleased with us
when we want to keep our virginity.
If we are yesually involved before God has blessed us to
marry, we hinder our relationship with Him.
By taking pleasure in fornication (and sin altogether),
we are not allowing God to reign in our lives.
As young people it is not always easy to live holy.
Of course there are pressures from your peers to try to
get you to become involved in the things which are not of God.
One of those pressures is to have yes before marriage.
This is something that all young people are faced with.
And, although this pressure is sometimes very difficult
to deal with and to overcome, God has given us something greater
than the pressure. We
have the Holy Spirit, which is the power that God has given us
to overcome all the pressures of the world.
When
you are tempted to have yes
and the temptation for most young people will come, go to God.
The enemy wants us to fall, and fornication is one of his
devices in which he uses to distract young people from the will
of God. Don't let
the devil distract you; if you resist him, the Bible says he will
flee from you. As
a teen or young adult, put God first in your life.
Seek to please God in all things including your body.
When you keep your virginity, God will honor that and bless
you abundantly.
For
those of you who may be reading this article and have already
engaged in fornication, repent.
Ask God to forgive you and ask Him to restore you.
God will forgive and restore you.
It's your decision to live holy for God.
The only person who can live your life holy is you.
Ask God to give you strength in that area of your life
if you have weakness in restraining your yesual passions.
God will help you.
In
conclusion, whatever you do, live your life for Jesus Christ;
and no matter what your peers may tell you, remember that virgin:
it's really not a dirty word.
May God bless and keep every one of you who has read this
article.
